Alison Dare 1-2
Alison Dare is the 12 year-old daughter of an archaeologist/adventurer and the masked hero known as the Blue Scarab. She has a love of danger and adventure, but her parents, wanting her to be safe, enrol her at St. Joan of Arc Academy for Girls, hoping she will settle down. However, she still manages to get into all sorts of adventures. The stories have an Egyptian element, as the Blue Scarab is an Egyptian hero, and the strong female character will appeal to girls. Each volume includes multiple short stories centred on Alison's adventures. The books are written and illustrated by Canadians.
A Little Snow Fairy Sugar 1-3
Saga Bergman is a girl who has her life in order. She's on time for everything, including the times she's arranged at the local music shop to play the piano that once belonged to her mother. However, one day, things get much more complicated when he meets Sugar, a "Season Fairy" that only she can see! Sugar is only an apprentice, and can only become a full-blown Fairy by finding Twinkles. However, no one knows what Twinkles are or how to find them. Sugar, along with other Season Fairies, try to become full Fairies, while Saga tries balance helping the fairies and keeping her life in order. Manga, black and white.

Amelia is a smart and funny fourth grader who has recently moved from Manhattan to a small town due to her parents' divorce. There is a range of humour, allowing the books to appeal to a wide audience. Astro Boy was the first manga series to be adapted to animation and receive worldwide recognition, leading the way for the current manga phenomenon. Astro Boy is a jet-powered, super-strong, evil-robot-bashing, alien-invasion-smashing robot. In a civilization founded on Asimov's robot principles, Astro works to stop injustice wherever he finds it, in stories that touch on themes of acceptance, selflessness, and environmentalism. Baby-Sitters Club 1-3
The Baby-Sitters Club is a group of girls who offer a babysitting service to the neighbourhood. Each girl is unique and has their own issues. For example, Stacey is diabetic, and the volume focusing on her describes what that means, and how it affects her life. The stories centre around the girls working together and forming friendships to help each other with their individual problems. Black and white. Ongoing series.

They also meet a vast array of characters, including Thorn, a girl who has a bigger role to play than she could imagine. This fantasy epic has won wide international recognition and acclaim. Chickenhare 1-2
Chickenhare is a strange creature, part chicken, part hare, and all adventure. With his turtle friend Abe, and other pals they meet along the way, Chickenhare tries to avoid trouble, such as an insane taxidermist in volume one. The dark humour and implied violence make this book recommended for grade 6 and up.
Coraline
One of three children's books written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean. McKean brings his unique style of illustration to this dark story about a girl named Coraline, who discovers a mysterious door on a rainy day. The door leads to a creepy, alternate world that she must then try to escape. Due to the darker content, this book is recommended for grade 6 and up. Illustrated novel. Black and white.
Courageous Princess
Courageous Princess is the story of Princess Mabelrose. Raised by loving parents, she is kidnapped by a greedy dragon. Rather than wait to be rescued, Mabelrose decides to stage a daring escape and make her way back home. She travels through many strange lands, encountering dangerous situations, facing each with courage and a positive attitude. This spirit gains her the help and friendship of many people, creatures, and magical beings she encounters in her quest to return home.Courageous Princess is currently out of print. Courtney Crumrin 1-3
Courtney liked her life, and then her parents dragged her out to a high-to-do suburb to live with her creepy Great Uncle Aloysius in his spooky old house. And while her parents have slipped easily into their new social status, Courtney now has to deal with snobby classmates and the strange shadowy visitors that often come to visit her uncle. The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish
The first illustrated children's book by the acclaimed team of Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean. The title says it all, as two siblings agree to trade their father for their friend's coveted goldfish. Dreadful Ed and Mary Scary
Both of these books are written in rhyming couplets with facing images. Each tells the story of one of the bogeyman's children, Ed who tries to live up to being heir to the bogeyman, but isn't very scary at all, and Mary, an orphan who has never been able to fit into society.
Franklin Richards 1-2
Franklin Richards is the son of Reed and Sue Richards of the Fantastic Four, and is the smartest kid in the world. With his robot pal H.E.R.B.I.E. Franklin gets himself in and out of trouble in every issue, usually through fooling about in his dad's lab. Manga-sized. Each volume contains four issues. Ongoing series. Gargoyles 1
Based on the popular Disney cartoon from the 90s, Gargoyles centres around the story of five actual Gargoyles who have not assumed living form since they were in Scotland centuries ago, now find themselves awake in New York City in the 20th century. Having befriended a police officer named Elisa, they work to protect New York City, while keeping their presence a secret. Contains the first six issues of the series. Manga-sized. Ongoing series.
Glister 1-3
Glister Butterworth is a weird kid who seems to attract nothing but weird things, such as a literal ghost writer who haunts Glister until she completes his masterpiece. Glister is a strong female character who sticks up for herself, and meets every challenge head-on and with a sense of humour. Manga-sized. Black and white. Ongoing series.
Gon 1-4
Gon is the only dinosaur left, unfortunately, he's also the smallest dinosaur. In stories told without words, Gon travels across the wilderness protecting those in need of help from other animals that wish to harm or eat them. Manga-sized. Ongoing series.

Based on the classic novels by Franklin W. Dixon, these graphic versions update the stories for a new generation of readers. Joe and Frank Hardy solve puzzles and mysteries continue to save the day now with the help of modern technology. Manga-sized. Ongoing series.

Jason and the Argobots 1-2

This book collects the first two chapters of the popular webcomic "Jellaby". Elementary student Portia cannot stop getting into trouble in class, mostly due to daydreaming. Then one night she meets a sad and hungry dragon named Jellaby and finds the friend she'd been looking for. Manga-sized. Ongoing series.
Johnny Boo
Johnny Boo is a little friendly ghost, with his own ghost sidekick and pal Squiggle. Together the two strive to find ice cream, but run into an ice cream monster, who, although seemingly harmless, still steals their ice cream. Using Johnny's Boo Power, and Squiggle's Squiggle Power, they manage to save the day. Everyone ends up happy at the end of this delightful children's book. The art is vivid and lively, and the writing is humorous and encourages friendship values.

Justice League Unlimited: Ties That Bind
The most powerful superheroes in the universe join forces to fight evil wherever it may be found. These books present new stories based on the TV cartoon Justice League Unlimited. Little Vampire Vol.1
This book collects three Little Vampire stories - "Little Vampire Goes to School", "Little Vampire Does Kung Fu", and "Little Vampire and the Canine Defenders Club." Little Vampire is just that, a little vampire. He lives with his undead parents in a haunted house, full of ghosts, monsters, and other strange things. Little Vampire is a little unlike other vampires though: he wants to go to school. But there is no school during the night, when vampires can be out and about. So the other creatures of the house go to school at night with Little Vampire, so he can have his wish fulfilled. While at school, Little Vampire completes the homework of Michael, the boy whose desk he shares. Michael, overjoyed, soon starts writing messages with Little Vampire, and eventually they meet and become friends. Together with Little Vampire's dog Phantomato (named for being a ghost and the colour of a tomato), the three get in and out of trouble in the real and ghostly world. The stories are endearing, very funny, and contain some grotesque elements a la Roald Dahl. Recommended for grade 5 and up.

Skullboy is an elementary student who is bent on world domination. He continuously attempts to accomplish this with the questionable help of his sidekicks, a robot and a monkey, who seem to do more harm than good. He also struggles to avoid Booger Ralph who annoys him, and Brutus who bullies him. This hilarious series of stories will appeal to all ages. Manga-sized. Black and white.
Mouse Guard 1
Mouse Guard is a story of heroic mice who discover their village and lives are in danger, and must find a way to save the day. The characters are interesting and complex, and their surroundings are beautifully rendered, giving the series an extremely lifelike feel. This series will appeal to fans of Bone, as it has a similar quest aspect, and highly sympathetic characters. Ongoing series.

Based on the classic novels by Carolyn Keene, these graphic versions update the stories for a new generation of readers. Nancy Drew encounters intrigue and adventure as she solves puzzles and mysteries. Manga-sized. Ongoing series.
Naruto 1-29
One of the most anticipated series in North American manga release history, Naruto is the story of a young boy trying to prove himself to his entire village. Each village has its own ninjitsu style, and to be a true member of society, the children must study and pass many exams to become full-fledged members of their home village's style. Naruto is the black sheep of his village. He is an orphan and none of the adults will acknowledge his existence. This is because he houses the spirit of a nine-tailed fox-demon that tried to destroy the city before he was born. This hasn't stopped Naruto though. Instead he tries twice as hard as every other student to become the best ninja in his class. He is usually unsuccessful, and that is where this action series gets its comedic relief. A good book for boys, containing exciting action sequences. Ongoing series. Manga, black and white.
Owly 1-4
Owly is a kind, yet lonely, little owl whose friend is a worm. Owly wants to make friends with everyone, even animals owls don't usually befriend. The stories are about understanding and acceptance, and being different, as Owly himself is an owl that cannot fly. The books are told through symbols and expressions rather than words, allowing it to appeal to a wide range of readers. It engages imagination, as readers figure out what is going on in the books without the aid of text. Black and white. Ongoing series.

Polly is caught between the prim-and-proper boarding school set she's grown up with and the legendary legacy of the Pirate Queen of which she never knew she was a part. Suddenly Polly is faced with becoming the Pirate Queen while trying to overcome her insecurities. A great book for girls, containing lots of adventure, with a strong female character.
